Vitamin E, K support the body’s defense

Vitamin K refers to a group of fat-soluble vitamins that play a role in blood clotting, bone metabolism, and regulating calcium.
Vitamin E is also fat soluble and is vital for a functioning immune system and is considered to be the main anti-oxidant.

Vitamin K helps with the normal blood function by preventing excessive internal/external bleeding and overall bone health.
Some signs of a vitamin K deficiciency are:
Easy bruising, heavy menstrual cycles, blood traces in urine and stools, celiac disease, cystic fibrosis, and intestinal disorders.

It is recommended to consume between 90 -120 micro grammes daily depending on age and gender.

Since it is a fat-soluble vitamin, it requires good fats/oils to absorb well.
Sources of Vitamin K:
Dark green leafy vegetables, spinach, parsley, romaine, and green leaf lettuce among others.
It is also found in Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, green beans, green peas, fish, chicken, organ meats, meat, eggs, red kidney beans, hazelnuts, hard cheeses, whole milk, butter and cream.
Prunes, kiwi, avocado, grapes and blueberries among others.

Vitamin E deficiency can cause a weakened immune system, nerve and muscle damage which could lead to numbness and loss of feeling.

It may prevent coronary heart disease, support immune function, prevent inflammation, promote eye health, and lower the risk of cancer.

Vitamin E is found in many foods including sunflower seeds, almonds, spinach, avocados, squash, kiwifruit, trout, shrimp, olive oil, wheat germ oil, and broccoli, vegetable oils, cereals, meat, poultry, eggs, fruits, vegetables and wheat germ oil.
