Vitamin B12 is critical for a healthy nervous system. Major reasons for B12 deficiency could be conditions like pernicious anemia, gastric and pancreatic disease, some medications that affect B12 absorption, alcoholism, dietary factors such as being on a vegetarian or vegan diets, or more likely having poor quality nutrition.
Vitamin B12 is needed to form red blood cells and DNA. It is also a key player in the function and development of brain and nerve cells. There is clear evidence that as we age, the B12 levels in the brain decrease and it’s a risk factor for cognitive decline, brain shrinkage, dementia, neuropathy, and spinal cord diseases. But vitamin B12 supplementation delays these changes.

There is a tsunami of diseases of the brain such as Alzheimer’s, stroke and Parkinson’s disease permeating our culture. Lifestyle change is the only answer.
