Nutrition-Life Processes 1 : CBSE Class 10 X Science Biology

In this video, we discuss the topic as, nutrition and mode of nutrition from chapter Life Processes of CBSE Class 10 Science.
The first thing to know is, What is Nutrition?

Х

Nutrition – The process of taking food inside the body and converting it into smaller molecules which can be absorbed by the body is called Nutrition.

The need for nutrition: Nutrition is needed to provide energy for doing any activity and provide essential nutrients for life processes.

Nutrients: Materials which provide nutrition to organisms are called nutrients.

Types of Nutrients

– Carbohydrates

– Fats

– Proteins

– Vitamins

– Minerals

Carbohydrates and Fats supply energy for nutrition.

Mode of Nutrition

1) Autotrophic mode of nutrition

It is a mode of nutrition in which a living organism prepares its

own food.

It is not dependent on other living organisms.

It also called Autotrophs.

2) Heterotrophic mode of nutrition

It is a mode of nutrition in which an organism depends on

another organism for food. It also called Heterotrophs.

Now, Heterotrophic modes of nutrition are also divided into three (3) types.

1) Herbivores

2) Carnivores

3) Omnivores

Herbivore

Any organism that eats only plants will be classified as an

herbivore.

For example Elephant, Cow

Carnivore

Any organism that sustains itself solely on meat is classified as a carnivore.

For example – Lion, Tiger, Snake

Omnivore

Any organism that can eat both plants and animals is an omnivore.

For example – Crow, Human

well-balanced diet full of essential nutrients can help support a healthy life. However, people with deficiencies, certain diseases and conditions, or with evolving nutritional needs at different stages of life may consider dietary supplements to add missing nutrients to their diets.

Good nutrition is an important aspect to athletic training. There’s no substitute or supplement for a balanced diet, as Kacie Vavrek, MS, RN, LD, explains. Vavrek is part of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Nutrition Services department, which provides clinical nutrition services, nutrition assessment, counseling, patient dining, catering and retail dining at multiple locations.
