[senior woman’s face looking mildly confused]

[Narrator] Many people living with cancer experience cognitive changes such as memory loss, difficulty concentrating or trouble multi-tasking. This is commonly referred to as “chemo-brain”.

[a female patient and a female physician meet together in an office and look over information on a computer screen. Both are wearing face coverings]

[Narrator] For some it’s temporary and subtle, but for others it’s more noticeable and may continue after treatment ends. Each person’s experience is unique. While the exact cause is unknown, there are many possible contributing factors including the cancer, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, chronic insomnia, depression, anxiety, fatigue, pain, or even certain vitamin deficiencies.

[Narrator] It’s important to evaluate these types of cognitive changes, as it can negatively impact one’s quality of life, including family roles and performance at work or school.

At Miami Cancer Institute, we believe in taking care of the whole person. Our Brain Fitness Lab focuses on this vital aspect of our patients’ well-being by offering assessment, diagnosis and treatment of cognitive deficits. If you are experiencing any cognitive changes since your diagnosis or treatment for cancer, we invite you to reach out to Miami Cancer Institute’s Cancer Patient Support Center for more information or to schedule an appointment.
