Most people don’t like onions because they can stimulate tears when being chopped. This has been attributed to the presence of a chemical compound called syn-Propanethial-S-oxide. To reduce the tears, it has been recommended that you chill the onion for 30 minutes before cutting off its top. Make sure you leave the root intact as it contains the highest concentration of this compound.

Onions come in different varieties and types. They vary in color, size, shape, and flavor. You can get almost every type of taste, from sweet to juicy, sharp, spicy, and pungent. The most common types of onions you would find are red, white, and yellow onions.
