Herbs for Kids During COVID

Today I will be discussing herbs, supplements, and helpful parenting tips to keep children’s immune systems strong during the current COVID pandemic.

Below is the dosing for the supplements based on published research:

Vitamin D
– Infants to 18 months – 400 IU/daily
-18 months – 3 years – 600 IU/daily
-3-18 years – 800 – 1000 IU/daily

Brands I recommend: Carlsons, Nordic Naturals, and ChildLife D3 Drops

Vitamin C
– 7-12 months – up to 200 mg/daily (food sources are best)
– 1-3 years – 200 – 400 mg/daily
– 4-8 years – 400 – 650 mg/daily
– 9-13 years – 1000 – 1200 mg/daily
– 14-18 years – 1500 – 1800 mg/daily

Brands I recommend: MegaFoods C Defence Gummies, 90 mg vit C per gummy, 1 gram sugar.
Core Med Science Liposomal Vit C 1-3 years old – 1/4 tsp/daily, 4-8 years old – 1/2 tsp daily

Stephen Buher’s Herbal Formula

20-30 lbs – 1/8 tsp (12 drops) 3x a day OR 18 drops 2x day
30-50 lbs – 1/4 tsp (25 drops) 3x a day OR 28 drops 2x day
50-75 lbs – 1/2 tsp (50 drops) 3x a day OR 3/4 tsp 2x day
75-100 lbs – 3/4 tsp (75 drops) 3x a day OR 1 tsp 2x a day

Antioxidant and Cardiovascular Protections

Hawthorn Solid Extract by Herbalists & Alchemists (not for children under 2)
– Kids under 10 – Take 1/8 tsp -1/4 tsp daily
– Kids over 10 – Take 1/4-12 tsp daily

Elderberry Syrup for Immune Support

– Kids under 5 – 1/4 – 1/2 tsp 2-3 x a day

– 3 months and older take 1/4 tsp daily and increase to 3/4 tsp daily. Add to yogurt, juice, breastmilk, or formula.
