INNATE IMMUNE SYSTEM:
-Concerning cellular innate immunity, most studies show decreased functions (chemotaxis, phagocytosis, killing)

-Chronic hyperglycemia in diabetes patients can lead to acidosis, which limits the activity of the immune system

-High glucose levels limit and deregulate neutrophil synthesis, which is essential in the immune system to attack a foreign object.

2. Eat fermented

-A decrease in phagocytic activity in leukocytes was observed after two weeks of a restricted diet.
-Add lactobacillus back in, and innate immune response was restored

The ingestion of a probiotic product containing the strains Lactobacillus gasseri CECT5714 and Lactobacillus coryniformis CECT5711 or a standard yogurt containing a conventional starter Lactobacillus delbrueckii sp. bulgaricus counteracted the fall in the immune response, although the probiotic product was more effective than the standard yogurt.
