Covid update: Covaxin’s 1st dose; WHO on herd immunity; flight ban extended

From the first dose of Covaxin to WHO’s comment on herd immunity, here are the top updates on coronavirus pandemic. India on Friday gave the first dose of indigenously developed Covaxin to a man at Delhi’s AIIMS. This was part of the first-phase trials done in India to develop a vaccine against the novel coronavirus. WHO’s Soumya Swaminathan said we are far away from herd immunity. Cipla will be commercially launching its anti-viral drug against Covid-19 in the first week of August. The favipiravir drug, Ciplenza, will be available at Rs 68 per tablet, the company said. India and Israel to work together to develop a new rapid testing kit for Covid-19.
