HOUSE HOLDS HEARING ON COVID-19 VACCINE: Representatives from Big Pharma firms AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Moderna, and Pfizer are facing questions from the House Energy and Commerce Committee on the efforts to develop an effective and accessible vaccine for COVID-19. Stat, a health and medicine-focused news outlet, reports that two members of the subcommittee for today’s hearing have stock in one or more of the companies, including Rep. Joe Kennedy III, who reportedly owns up to $1.7 million in stock in three of the companies testifying. Democratic leadership has called for a COVID-19 vaccine to be ‘free and accessible to everyone,’ the Trump administration has only said that ‘vulnerable’ Americans would be given the vaccine for free. The United States has 3,831,450 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and has lost 140,909 to the virus, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
