Mohamed Karim, a health worker in the Iraqi city of Basra, has gone viral on social media, for boosting coronavirus patients’ morale by singing to them, as seen in footage from Friday.

Fully dressed in a hazmat suit and all the necessary personal protective equipment, the medical laboratory assistant could be seen singing to his patients in a bid to ease their pain and lower their stress levels.

“I want the patients to be happy and feel safe because they are coming here feeling scared and worried and feeling huge pressure. We are trying to free them from that pressure, by working on a happy and stable mental state which will effectively influence the immune system,” said the healthcare worker.

Since the beginning of the outbreak, Iraq has reported 92,530 cases of coronavirus and 3,781 deaths with the disease, according to Johns Hopkins University.
