Immunity Boosting Kadah | Herbal Drink to Boost Immunity against Coronaviruses

Kadah is a herbal drink known to boost immunity. It consists of natural antioxidants and ingredients with active anti-bacterial and anti-viral compounds. Kadah helps one stay safe during the flu season and prevents falling ill from various coronaviruses. The recommended intake is 1-2 glasses every day during the monsoons and winters. During the summer months, kadah should be avoided.

Kadah recipe featured here comes from Kerala, India, and is a common home remedy. The recipe is sweetened by palm jaggery, however, one can also keep it unsweetened. Sugarcane jaggery can also be used if palm jaggery is hard to come by. Further, if one wants to use honey to sweeten the kadah, make sure that honey is added after the kadah is cooled down. This is because honey loses its benefits when heated.

The herbal drink can be further concentrated and kept for 1-2 days. One will need to just reheat the kadah and drink. Kadah is super effective against sore throat and the heat from the ginger and black pepper provide instant relief.

Boil the following ingredients in 800 ml of water for 20-30 mins to make 2 glasses of Kadah.

2-inch fresh ginger (crushed)
1 teaspoon black peppercorns (crushed): this helps the body to absorb curcumin found in turmeric
10-15 cloves
5 green cardamom pods
2-inch cinnamon stick
1/2 teaspoon fresh or powdered turmeric: known for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties
10-15 fresh tulsi leaves
100 gms palm jaggery
