Topic: Vitamin D and its role in Immunity in the backdrop of current Pandemic : Cardiologist’s Perspective

Speaker : Dr Anand Kumar
Dr. Anand Kumar V is a leading Consultant Cardiologist in Kochi who has been in practice for the last 12 years. He is available for consultation at Lakeshore Heart Centre, Maradu, where he supervises the cardiac services consisting of three Intensive Care Units (Intensive Cardiac Care Unit, Semi-Intensive Cardiac Care Unit and Post-Cardiac Catheterisation Intensive Care Unit).

Dr. Anand Kumar has vast experience in the management of acute coronary syndrome including bedside echocardiography, pacemaker insertion, central venous line insertion, intra-aortic balloon pump insertion, bedside mechanical ventilation and emergency pericardial aspiration.

Dr. Kumar is well-versed in invasive and interventional cardiology having performed numerous coronary angiograms, including transfemoral, transradial, transulnar and transbrachial angiographies. He started the first dedicated transradial coronary unit in Kerala with day-care angiography facility.

In the area of peripheral angiography, Dr. Kumar has performed more than 5,000 peripheral angiograms, including aortic, subclavian, carotid, renal, and lower extremity angiographies. He has to his credit more than 6,000 coronary angioplasty (PTCA) procedures, mostly through the transradial route in a wide variety of complex coronary artery disease including acute MI, chronic total occlusions, bifurcation lesions, left main CAD and post-bypass graft CAD.

Dr. Anand Kumar has much experience in rotational atherectomy, intra-aortic balloon pump insertions and coronary thrombus extraction procedures. He performed the first across-hip-joint femoral artery covered stent implantation in India in 2009. He has performed numerous pacemaker implantations, some in patients with complex bradyarrhythmias. He has done several ICD implantations in patients with CAD, heart failure and cardiac arrhythmia and has also performed biventricular pacemaker implantations in patients with advanced heart failure. He has carried out over 200 device closure procedures in congenital heart disease including ASD, VSD, PDA, and PFOs and has done almost 200 thoracic and abdominal artery embolisations in visceral, traumatic and other types of haemorrhage. Dr. Kumar has also performed about 60 temporary and permanent IVC filter implantations in patients with deep vein thrombosis/pulmonary embolism.

Dr. Kumar is also highly experienced in non-invasive cardiac diagnostics such as echocardiography, stress echocardiography, holter monitoring, ambulatory BP monitoring and multislice cardiac CT scanning having performed a vast number of these procedures including cases of complex congenital heart disease and valvular heart disease. In 2005, Dr. Kumar was responsible for starting the first ambulatory BP monitoring unit in the state of Kerala. In 2008 he started the first low radiation 64-slice cardiac CT scan at Lakeshore Hospital and the first 3D transesophageal echocardiography unit in Kerala in 2009.

Dr. Kumar has the distinction of having started the first dedicated 24-hour active, primary angioplasty fast track unit in central Kerala in 2005, incorporating emergency room, intensive cardiac care unit and cardiac catheterisation laboratory.
