I see a some people who are unable to tolerate magnesium supplements. Magnesium might produce insomnia, agitation, anxiety or headaches. Often times, these people have tried balancing other minerals or switching forms, with no results.
One nutrient they have usually NOT tried is vitamin B1. Thiamine and magnesium have a close relationship, and taking thiamine alone can increase mangesium requirements. This relationship has been studied on numerous occasions. Some researchers have proposed that magnesium cannot be retained without having sufficient levels of thiamine.
On numerous occasions, I have seen people gain tolerance to magnesium supplements only AFTER supplementing with B1
