COVID-19

Covid-19 death risk can be reduced through simple lifestyle changes. BAME especially at risk

Covid-19 kills people who are metabolically unhealthy disproportionately. Thank you to Gurinder Chadha OBE and Dr Aseem Malhotra for shining a light on what people can do to reduce their risk. BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) especially vulnerable and the current public health policies are failing everyone, especially BAME.

Factors known to increase Covid-19 risk include:

• Pre-diabetes and Type Two Diabetes
• Pre-hypertension and High blood pressure
• Increased blood triglycerides
• Low HDL
• Increased waist circumference

The good news is that simple lifestyle changes, individualised and culturally appropriate, can make an enormous difference to health, happiness and reducing risk of Covid-19 death:

• Eating real food, especially reducing refined carbs/sugar
• Sleep and stress
• Exercise
• Sunlight/Vitamin D

Paper “Poor metabolic health is a major issue for increased Covid-19 mortality in BAME patient Groups” published today outlines the risks.
