Today, we’re going to talk about the interesting connection between vitamin D, bile, and your gallbladder.

Vitamin D is probably one of the most important vitamins, yet it’s one of the most common vitamin deficiencies.

Vitamin D is important for:
• Bone growth
• Sleep
• Blood sugars
• Immunity
• Inflammation
• Cardiovascular health
• The brain

It’s almost impossible to get enough vitamin D from your diet. You can get vitamin D from the sun. But, you may not get enough vitamin D from the sun if you’re older, you have certain health conditions, your skin is darker, or during the winter months. There can also be issues with absorption that can cause you to not get enough vitamin D.

Absorption of vitamin D:

• Certain nutrients can help support the absorption of vitamin D (magnesium, B6, and K2).

• If you have malabsorption, you could have a difficult time absorbing vitamin D. Issues like damage to the inside of the colon, inflammatory conditions, an issue with the gallbladder, or a lack of bile could cause malabsorption.

• Certain viruses have a strategy of downgrading the vitamin D receptor. This can make it difficult to absorb vitamin D.

• Cortisol, which comes from stress or certain medications, can block the vitamin D receptor.

• Polymorphism is a mutation in the gene that is a part of the vitamin D receptor.

A VDR agonist is something that connects to make everything work. A few examples of a VDR agonist would be:
• Vitamin D (in higher amounts)
• Benicar
• Bile salts
