❀ Doctors say British man recovers well enough to fly home
(VOVWORLD) – A British man who had been suffering from the novel coronavirus known as “patient 91” has been confirmed to be in good enough health to be discharged from hospital and be put on a long-haul flight to return to the UK next Sunday.
He could soon be leaving Vietnam with the assistance of local health specialists, according to a group of leading Vietnamese health experts on Friday at a national consultation. A report compiled by Ho Chi Minh City-based Cho Ray Hospital indicates that the British pilot has been making a strong recovery and remains mentality stable. He is now entering the 22nd consecutive day of being disconnected from the life support machine and is able to communicate competently with doctors.
Since first being admitted to a local health facility, “patient 91” has spent a total of 107 days receiving treatment.

The British Embassy in Hanoi has sent a note to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health, requesting for repatriation of the British pilot infected with the coronavirus, the most severe case in Vietnam.
The Embassy expressed hope the British pilot who is recovering well here in Vietnam will be in good form for a flight of Vietnam Airlines scheduled to depart from Hanoi on July 12 to the UK to bring home stranded Vietnamese citizens due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The British patient now can breathe unaided, walk, communicate well with others, and has been practicing physical therapy, according to National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control. Patient 91 has been recovering well since he was transferred from the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Tropical Diseases to Cho Ray Hospital.
He was admitted to the hospital on March 18 with Covid-19. The doctors say he has a blood clotting disorder and cytokine storm syndrome, an immune response in which the immune system releases a lot of cytokines into the bloodstream, which works against the body.
British Ambassador to Vietnam Gareth Ward on Friday visited the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Tropical Diseases, where he thanked Vietnamese doctors for saving the British man who was infected with COVID-19.
Vietnam successfully tests vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 virus on mice
Vietnam has just ended the testing phase of the vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 virus on mice with the potential vaccine having high immunity, paving the way for the Company for Vaccine and Biological Production No.1 (Vabiotech) to carry out the next stages after conducting animal testing in May.
Vabiotech has completed Phase 1 of the project two months ahead of scheduled, which the company said is the most important stage in the research and production of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to Vabiotech, the next stage will be the most difficult as a potential vaccine must be developed into a real vaccine on millions of doses.
The vaccine will continue to be tested on animals on a large scale to optimize the vaccine for use on humans. The latest result pins hope on the success of Made in Vietnam COVID-19 vaccine in early 2021.
