Ashley Hinson returns to vote for COVID-19 immunity bill

On June 5, 2020, State Representative Ashley Hinson (the GOP nominee for Congress in Iowa’s first district) returned to the Iowa House chamber in order to approve an amendment to a bill granting near-total immunity to employers and nursing home owners for lawsuits related to COVID-19.

Hinson had stayed out of the House chamber for most of the debate, ensuring that she could not be questioned by Democratic colleagues on asapects of the bill.

This clip begins as House Speaker Pat Grassley cut off debate, having reached an 11:00 pm deadline Republicans established for considering the bill. For that reason, Hinson could be confident she would not be asked any questions on camera for the remainder of the evening.
