Immunity refers to the ability of our immune system to defend against infections and diseases. There are two types of immunity. A) Innate or Natural Immunity; B) Acquired or adaptive Immunity. This video explains in detail how acquired immunity develops and works. Vaccinations given to control diseases are based on this.
T cells and B cells play a major role in acquired immunity. When a Naive B cell encounters an antigen that matches its membrane-bound antibodies, it quickly divides and produces Plasma and Memory cells. Plasma cells produce antibodies that eliminate the pathogen. Macrophages and T Helper cells also play a major role in the antibody production process.
The memory cells produced will be activated if the pathogen enters the body for the second time. They react very fast and produce antibodies. This immunological memory will be used in vaccinations.
