Leche Flan is traditional delicacy of the Filipinos ever since. But what is Leche Flan? It is a caramel custard, made with eggs, milk, sugar, and flavoured with vanilla. It originated from the regions along the border of France and Spain and was brought to the Philippines at the time of the Spanish Colonization. In conclusion, Leche FLan has been around our country for quite a long a time. You could almost find these kinds of treats in many houses during fiestas in the provinces. A fiesta without Leche Flan is not a fiesta. But of course, Leche Flan isn’t only for parties, it’s also for merienda. Philippines is a tropical country, and there are only two seasons; rainy season, and summer. But most of the time, even though it isn’t summer, it’s still searing hot. You would rather just sit down and sip a nice glass of cold water to cool yourself down. But why just have a glass of water, if you could have something else that could really liven yourself up from the heat. So to avoid stress and headaches from the unbearable heat, Leche Flan is a good way to replenish ourselves, especially with the flavour of lime which contains VItamin C and Anti-oxidants. A good pairing to keep us going from the heat.
So I decided to come up with a little bit of a twist by adding lime and coconut. Two very native spices, blended with the delicacy every Filipino loves so much. It gives that nice sweetness and a light zing from the lime, together with the nuttiness flavor from the coconut that makes every bite divine. Life would be meaningless without Leche Flan for us Filipinos. In every party you guests would be expecting to find Leche Flan on your service table, because if not, your guests will be disappointed and would start storming out of your house, especially if you live in the province. The only way to avoid that is to follow this recipe. It’s fast and easy, and it will sure bring a smile to your faces.

In this context, crème in French means ‘custard’. The names crème (caramel) renversée (French) and crema volteada (Spanish) allude to the custard being turned over to be served.

Both crème caramel (“caramel cream”) and flan are French names, but flan has come to have different meanings in different regions.
In Spanish-speaking countries and often in the United States, crème caramel is known as flan. This was originally a Spanish-language usage, but the dish is now best known in North America in a Latin American context. Elsewhere, including in Britain, a flan is a type of tart somewhat like a quiche.
The Modern English word flan comes from French flan, from Old French flaon, in turn from Medieval Latin fladonem, derived from the Old High German flado, a sort of flat cake, probably from an Indo-European root for ‘flat’ or ‘broad’.[2]
