Dexamethasone : First Life Saving COVID-19 Drug | BOOM | Govindraj Ethiraj & Dr Behram Pardiwala

The University of Oxford announced that the steroid dexamethasone is helping patients with severe lung damage survive COVID-19. The study revealed that dexamethasone reduced deaths by one-third in ventilated patients and by one-fifth in other patients receiving oxygen only.

Dr Behram Pardiwala, Internal Medicine Expert, Wockhardt Hospitals, says initially Americans were very reluctant to use steroids as far as COVID-19 was concerned. In India, we have used small or large doses depending on patients clinical condition since the onset of coronavirus. COVID-19 patient autopsies showing changes in lungs suggesting blood clots due to inflammation and coagulation in the body due to the virus. Some of the patients improved remarkably when steroids were given to them from early treatment process.

Watch BOOM’s Govindraj Ethiraj interview Dr Behram Pardiwala on how promising dexamethasone is and what are the prerequisites one must consider before taking steroids to cure the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 infection.
