World Health Organization Holds Coronavirus Briefing | LIVE | NowThis

COMMON DRUG REDUCES COVID-19 MORTALITY RATE: Officials from the World Health Organization hold a briefing on the latest developments of the global coronavirus outbreak. Yesterday scientists and researchers at the University of Oxford announced that dexamethasone, a common steroid, has been shown to help treat COVID-19 patients. The scientists said that the steroid helps reduce inflammation caused by the immune system, reducing the death of patients on ventilators by one-third and reducing the death of patients on oxygen by one-fifth. This is the first treatment that has shown to reduce mortality rates in COVId-19 patients that require ventilators or oxygen support.
