Coronavirus outbreak: Ontario begins stage 2 reopening in 24 regions, introduces "social circles"

Ontario Premier Doug Ford alongside Health Minister Christine Elliott and the province’s chief medical officer Dr. David Williams, provided an update on the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday.

Ford announced that 24 regions in Ontario will be moving to stage two of their reopening process after the province recorded its lowest number of cases since March. He also said a further details would be coming Monday.

Under the stage two reopening phase, shopping malls, barber shops, and hair salons could reopen while restaurants and bars could reopen their patios under health guidelines.

He also introduced “social circle” guidelines, which would allow Ontarians to expand a social group up to a maximum of 10 people, including those in their household, without physical distancing.

The concept took effect throughout the province on Friday.
