COVID-19

I took a Superdrug coronavirus antibody test – this is what it’s actually like

When Superdrug became the first high-street retailer to offer a Covid-19 antibody test, we were keen to test out how long it would take to arrive and what it involved.

The test, carried out by a device that pricks your finger for blood, checks your blood for coronavirus antibodies to see if they have already beaten the virus and gained some immunity to it.

The kit costs £69 – with an extra £3.99 for next day delivery – and arrived within 24 hours.

For senior video producer Jack Leather, getting hold of a test was seamless but when he returned to the site a day later, this message appeared: “due to the high demand of orders, this service is currently not available”.

The instructions were clear and the process seemed straightforward but, for Jack, providing enough blood was a challenge.

He needed all three lancets provided and had to take pauses to let the dizzy spells pass.

He’s now posted the sample to the laboratory and Superdrug promise results to be sent within two days of the lab receiving it.
