The Importance of Maintaining Mental Health During Pandemic Covid-19
Pandemic (COVID-19) has not only threatened physical health, but has also threatened the mental health of many people. This virus has claimed many lives throughout the world and caused concern among the people. Every minute, the public is always bombarded with news and information about COVID-19, both through TV, social media, and the internet. It is no wonder that many people experience mental disorders amid the disease pandemic caused by the Covid-19. Some mental disorders that often arise for example easily carried emotions, stress, excessive anxiety, depression, and so on. Recognizing that anxiety due to COVID-19 has permeated many communities, the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020 issued a guide for people to share mental health.
1. First, try to empathize with people infected with COVID-19 by understanding that they did nothing wrong. Instead, we must jointly support COVID-19 patients by showing sympathy, empathy and kindness.
2. secondly, we also need to limit ourselves from exposure to news and social media that are filled with information about COVID-19. Because reading or seeing lots of sad and frightening news about COVID-19 will make us even more hopeless, stressed, even depressed.
3. Third, protect yourself and your family, everyone certainly does not want himself or loved ones to be affected by this virus. In order to avoid this virus, we must obey the WHO recommendations such as physical distancing, at home, diligently washing hands with soap or hand sanitizer, covering the nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing, and not touching the eyes, mouth and nose.
4. Finally, providing support among people, especially to medical staff such as sending medical equipment.
Even though our space for activities is limited, our home activities policy has many positive benefits including our having a lot of time with family. some activities that we can do to maintain mental health such as doing things that become a hobby, reading positive news, doing new things, and others. The COVID-19 pandemic did indeed cause anxiety for everyone. However, excessive stress will reduce the body’s immune system, which in turn threatens physical health. Therefore, let’s pay attention to mental health so that you stay calm and think positive. Thank you 🙂
