• Do we really need supplements during pregnancy?
• Why the extra nutrients?
Supplements, as the word suggests; it supplements our body with nutrients.
I took them because I didn’t want to take a chance!
Pregnancy puts a growing pressure on our bodies!
It increases our nutrient needs in a lot of ways because of a baby that grows inside of us!
Nutrients are substances that provide essential nourishment for our life and our growth and development.
They help our bodies with energy levels, metabolism, cellular function, physical and mental wellbeing.
There are 2 kind of nutrients:
Macronutrients:
Macro means large
• These are the nutrients our bodies need in larger amounts.
• Carbohydrates, Protein, Fats etc.
Micronutrients:
Micro means small
• Vitamin C, E, Magnesium, Zinc, Sodium, Chlorine, Iodine, Copper etc.
Eating a healthy diet is always a good idea.
But to take a prenatal vitamin to help cover any nutritional gaps in the mother’s diet.
Folic acid helps prevent birth defects.
Its always a good idea to start taking your prenatal supplements if you are trying to conceive, through your pregnancy as well as much after giving birth.
That’s what I did.
