Taiwan adds 1 COVID-19 death as it posts 28 straight day without local infections

Taiwan”s coronavirus death toll has risen from six to seven deaths. The country”s total population is more than 23 million. Monday”s fatality was a man in his 40s, diagnosed on March 24, who had no preexisting conditions. His death has been attributed to a phenomenon called a cytokine storm, which is an overreaction of the immune system.

Officials reported no new coronavirus cases on Monday, marking the 29th day in a row with no local infections. Although the epidemic seems to be easing in Taiwan, the Central Epidemic Command Center says there”s reason to anticipate a second wave of infections. Officials said China”s Wuhan city could be back on the defense against the virus, with five new local cases reported on Sunday.
