Hi! My name is Ayushi Godhane, and I am a member of the Lotus STEMM group, a networking and
leadership platform run by a team of scientists, healthcare professionals, engineers and
educators.
The new coronavirus is one everyone’s mind and there is a lot of media coverage about it. First,
for you to know, coronavirus is the name of the type of virus and Covid-19 is the disease caused
by the infection.

There are many home remedies being shared on social media and between families and
friends, such as drinking turmeric milk or lemon water, even applying ghee in your nose to help
prevent you from getting Covid-19. Turmeric is known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-viral
properties and lemon juice is used as a disinfectant. Ghee in the nostrils is thought to prevent
the virus from attaching.

While it is important to maintain in take of Vitamin C/D, turmeric, lemon and ghee to stay
healthy, there is no scientific evidence that these prevent you from getting the new coronavirus!
Many of our elders believe to have strong immune systems, BUT this is a virus that our bodies
have not seen before.

So please eat as you normally do, exercise and for everyone’s safety,
please follow measures set in place by the WHO such as social distancing (~1-2 meter distance)
and washing your hands with soap often, even if you are at home.
If you develop any type of symptoms call your doctor (don’t go to the doctor) and follow
protocols/advice.
