KATA training is an excellent immunity booster as it strengthens the diaphragm and builds up lung capacity, its highly recommended as a preventive care against the pandemic, subject to certain conditions. KATA training sharpens reflexes and develops better body balance and boosts cardio capacity.
Bassai Dai is translated as “To Penetrate a Fortress,” meaning that one must exhibit the power and spirit required to break through an enemy’s castle. This is particularly evident in the kata’s first movement, when the karateka launches forward with soete-uchi-uke. The word Dai means “big,” describing the kata’s larger movements, contrary to its counterpart Bassai Sho. Bassai, Kanku, and Gojushiho are the three Shotokan kata that each have two versions, a Sho version (small) and a Dai version (big). Much of the bunkai focus on breaking the opponent’s balance and defenses against grabbing attacks. Like many Shotokan kata, Bassai Dai is practiced in many styles of karate, having several variations. The KWF version has 42 movements.
Demonstrated by Sachin Chavan – President & Chief Instructor at Karatenomichi World Federation India and the Founder & CEO at BUJUTSU – a premium institute for training and research in martial arts. The Kata is practised on Gorai beach in Mumbai, the video is shot on a mobile phone way back in 2016, the quality of the video in terms of pixel and resolution may be a bit weak but the content is indeed powerful, Enjoy.
We will be coming up with lot more videos in the art of exercising, developing indomitable spirit which helps energize the mind and body to take up everyday challenges.
