Introduction to vitamins

Vitamins are essential nutrients for our bodies that help our different organs and systems function properly while protecting them from developing diseases.

There are 13 essential vitamins: A, C, D, E, K, and the B complex vitamins. ( B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12).

Vitamins can be classified in 2 groups: Fat-soluble and water-soluble.

* Fat soluble, meaning those who are stored in body’s fatty tissue. These are A, D, E, and K.
* Water soluble vitamins are all those who belong to the B complex and vitamin C.
Vitamin deficiencies can lead to malfunction of many systems in your body and put you at higher risk for developing diseases.

Include nutritious foods in your meals and vitamin supplements in some cases to avoid deficiencies.

Some vitamins may cause toxicity when taken excessively so make sure you talk to a healthcare provider or nutritionist before taking vitamin supplements.
