On Tuesday 4 May 18:00 – 19:00, the UK Coronavirus Immunology Consortium (UK-CIC) held ‘COVID-19 and your immune system’, a free public webinar
—————————————————————————————————————————
Millions of people in the UK have been infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, but there is a lot of variability in how it affects each person – some catch it without ever knowing whereas others become seriously unwell. What role does the immune system play in this variability?
Join scientists from the UK Coronavirus Immunology Consortium to hear about the cutting-edge research that has been taking place across the UK to look at how differences in immune response relate to how well a patient copes with infection. There will be chance to ask them your questions about COVID-19 immunology.
Our researchers will explain how features of the immune system can be measured in a patient that has been admitted to hospital to predict a severe outcome. The panel of scientists will also describe their strategies to define how differences in groups of people, such as ethnicity or those with other health conditions like heart disease, can affect patient outcomes.
Speakers:
Professor Tracy Hussell, University of Manchester
Professor Doreen Cantrell, University of Dundee
Dr John Grainger, University of Manchester
Chairs:
Erika Aquino, British Society for Immunology
