BQ Omicron variants BQ.1 and BQ.1.1 are taking over in the United States and elsewhere with continued growth in the recombinant variant XBB as well. New study points to 24-44x decreased neutralization of BQ variants and 90-104x decreased neutralization of XBB variants across vaccination status, bivalent booster, and previous infection groups. Interestingly, they also looked at how strongly these Omicron variants bound to the human cell receptor ACE2 finding XBB may have weaker binding. Understand what all this means and more!
