Dr Kerry Chant explains how NSW will live with COVID in 2022 | 7NEWS

NSW COVID-19: NSW Health Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chan says that we need to plan for the emergence of new coronavirus variants and consider the resurgence of influenza this year.

“It’s surprised many at how prolific COVID has been in throwing-off variants.”

Ms Chant says that NSW Health is planning for a ‘bad flu season, but it’s not inevitable that we will see one.’

A third wave of COVID is likely as the vaccine and infection-derived immunity wanes, even if no new variants of COVID are produced.

“Omicron BA.1 is the dominant variant, but we’re also seeing indications of an increase in a BA.2 and need to be watchful of what that means.”
