A ‘mix-and-match’ approach to COVID-19 vaccinations is boosting protection against the virus. A UK study has been looking specifically at the efficacy the Pfizer and AstraZeneca jabs in different schedules and combinations. It found when a Pfizer shot was given four weeks after AstraZeneca, the immune response was better than when a second AstraZeneca dose was given. Oksana Pyzik, an infectious diseases expert at University College London, tells The World the strategy could be beneficial for countries with limited access to vaccines.
