COVID-19

Is It Good to Take Vitamin D Every day? Is It Safe? Dr. Radhakrishna Rao Sagi

Being careful with the dosage of vitamin D is important. During COVID-19 treatment, vitamin D will be given as a supplement (along with other supplements). Recommended use dose of Vitamin D is 60,000 International Units (IU), and that too is once a week (not daily). This dose must be continued for 4-6 weeks. Even though vitamin D is a supplement, it shouldn’t be consumed daily because vitamin D is a ‘fat-soluble’ vitamin, so your body can store it for months and you don’t need it every day.

If one is taking a Vitamin D supplement during his/her treatment, it is recommended to add some calcium to their diet. One can include leafy vegetables, pulses, dairy products, and meat (by choice).

Note: One shouldn’t start a supplement course without seeing a doctor. Consult a doctor before starting/making any changes to supplement the diet.
