Vitamin D Status, In-hospital Mortality, Mechanical Ventilation & COVID-19

Dr. Leonidas Palaiodimos, an Assistant Professor and Dr. Natalia Chamorro-Pareja, a Resident, both from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY, review their article appearing in the April 2021 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, where using univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses they found that low serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration in patients with COVID-19 was associated with higher in-hospital mortality rates and increased likelihood of mechanical ventilation. Although further studies are needed, this indicates that serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations could be used as a predictor of outcomes in patients with COVID-19. Available at:
