U.S. still hoping to reach herd immunity in fight against COVID-19 pandemic

The United States is still hoping to reach herd immunity. For the U.S. to reach herd immunity, we need about 200 million people fully vaccinated.

We know the virus continues to mutate and while the vaccines seem effective against some of the variants, there’s concern that some mutations could be vaccine resistant.

However, pharmaceutical companies are already working ahead to make vaccines to tackle those as well.

Getting more people vaccinated is the only way to control those mutations.

We also know we’re going to eventually need booster shots if the vaccine protection begins to wear off after six months and for those already infected, we know natural immunity will eventually wane too.
Then there’s the political and vaccine hesitancy issues as to why some people are just refusing to get the vaccine.

That’s why there’s a new push by hospitals to get people educated and vaccinated.
