A brand new massive randomized control trial has been completed on the treatment of early, outpatient COVID-19 in those high risk for decompensation using a cheap, widely available drug named Colchicine! They found really astounding results including a decreased rate of hospitalization by 25%, decreased mortality by 44%, and decreased ventilation needs by 50%! In this video, we discuss the trial design, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and number of participants. We dive into the results they have made public as we wait for the publication of the full data set. We illustrate how Colchicine works including several immuno-modulating, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant mechanisms. We describe the dosing, contraindications, and possibility of toxicity.
