If you’re healthy, active individual eating a balanced diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, high quality proteins and healthy fats, you probably don’t need a multivitamin. However, if you lead a hectic, stressed out lifestyle with lots of processed foods, fast foods, you probably aren’t getting the vitamins and nutrients you need, so you may want to consider taking a multivitamin.

There are a few things to consider when choosing a multivitamin. The first, is dosage and quantity. So the higher quality ones usually require 3 or more a day. The second is to look at your individual needs. So depending on your gender, your age. For example, older people, over 70, will have more vitamin requirements than younger people, under 25. Also, pregnant or nursing women will need a specially formulated multivitamin known as a prenatal vitamin. Those vitamins include calcium, folic acid, and iron. The last thing to consider when choosing a good multivitamin is read the labels. Make sure there’s high quality ingredients and that they are natural and not synthetic vitamins. You also want to make sure they are wheat and dairy-free, in case you are allergic to those food products. As well you want to make sure there are no added fillers, colorings or binders, because the added ingredients will make it difficult for your body to digest. Choose the higher quality natural brands, even though they’re more expensive. It’s worth it to spend the extra money because some of the less expensive brands have not been tested for purity or potency. So make sure you consider all these factors when choosing a high quality multivitamin
