Antioxidant vitamins are vitamins A, C, and E. Antioxidants are a group of compounds which protect the body from the formation of free radicals. Free radicals cause aging, tissue damage, and can lead to disease. Think of an apple. If I took an apple, and I sliced that apple in half, and you just left it there, it would start to brown, right? So, that’s what happens in the oxidation process. If you were to dip that piece of apple into say, some orange juice, which contains vitamin C, it would stay white. And that’s what antioxidants do in your body. The human body produces some antioxidants naturally, but the best and easiest sources are from foods. Foods that you see here on the table like dark leafy greens, carrots, red peppers, broccoli, strawberries, oranges, nuts. These are all great sources of antioxidants. I would recommend trying to get most of your antioxidants from food. However, if that’s difficult, you can consider taking antioxidant supplements. Just be careful because taking too many can lead to overdose and be very harmful for the body.
