UK study reveals natural immunity duration after COVID-19 infection

A study in the United Kingdom has revealed people who have been infected with COVID-19 receive some immunity for several months, however the risk of reinfection and transmission is still possible.

The report from Public Health England shows natural immunity to coronavirus in those who have been infected with it lasts for at least five months.

The study also revealed the risk of reinfection is low, at 44 people out of 6,614, with results showing antibodies provide 83 per cent protection against reinfection.

Experts have said some exposure to the virus may boost existing immunity, however the general review remains that vaccination is a better option than natural immunity in relation to overcoming the entire pandemic.
