How to Treat a Leaky Gut

Have you ever heard of “leaky gut?” If you experience bloating, gas, abdominal pain, fatigue, bad breath, diarrhea, constipation or nausea then you may have it! It is when the intestinal cell lining has increased permeability allowing toxins easy access in and out of the intestines. Whereas a healthy gut has a tight barrier that controls what gets absorbed into the blood stream from the intestines. Leaky gut can trigger inflammation and changes the microbiome (gut bacteria) of the intestines. These changes can lead to disease.

Todays You Tube video will discuss what foods and behaviors play a role in the development of leaky gut including an inflammatory diet, microbiome changes such as bacterial overgrowth in the small intestines (SIBO), medications such as Ibuprofen, stress, lack of exercise and diseases such as ulcerative colitis or celiac.

I also discuss certain foods to avoid that can be causing inflammation and altering the gut flora such as high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweetener, sugar, eggs, milk, red meat, processed foods, caffeine, alcohol and wheat. Furthermore, I discuss in detail The Elimination Diet and how it is used to determine YOUR inflammatory food that need to be eliminated. Finally, I discuss supplements to take to reduce inflammation and repair gut mucosal injury.
