UK COVID-19 is ‘adapting itself’ to find younger hosts

British hospitals are being occupied by 25-to-40-year-olds on a much larger scale than in the nation’s first wave.

Henley Business School’s Professor Rajneesh told Sky News the new UK variant of COVID-19 seems to be affecting the over-50 demographic less than those aged between 25 and 40.

“Hospitals have about 25 per cent of their capacity being occupied by 25-to-40 year olds as opposed to the 50-plus which was a dominant thing in the first wave,” Professor Rajneesh said.

He said the virus is “itself adapting” to find more hosts which has resulted in the UK’s younger demographics contracting the virus more so than in the first wave.
