THE 6 EARLY SIGNS OF VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY ARE AS FOLLOWS:
1. Hair loss:
Vitamin D plays a role in stimulating new and old hair follicles. That’s why a decrease in vitamin D in the body can lead to stunted hair growth and bald patches on the scalp: which can further lead to female-pattern baldness or alopecia. Well, this is mostly seen in elderly people with decreased vitamin D absorption rate.
2. Depression:
Depression is one of the early signs of vitamin D deficiency. Studies have shown that those with low level of vitamin D have an increased risk of suffering from depression, when compared to those with higher levels of Vitamin D. Wait. Are you suddenly losing interest in what you used to enjoy? It’s time to check your vitamin D level and make up for it if you’re deficient.
3. Bone and back pain:
Research has shown that most patients who complain of bone and back pain were deficient of vitamin D. This essential nutrient is needed to maintain the level of calcium and phosphorus, which both help to prevent bone diseases and back pain.
4. Slow healing of wounds:
Does your wound take ages to heal? Well, this might be your body telling you to load up on vitamin D. Deficiency of vitamin D affects the immune system and slows down the healing process of wounds. Keep in mind that thirty minutes exposure to the sun in a week is enough to maintain the level of vitamin D in the body.
5. Muscle weakness:
Muscle weakness is one of the price your body pays when you’re deficient on vitamin D. Due to the stimulation of nociceptors in the muscle, lack of vitamin D leads to pain and sensitivity. But then, increasing your vitamin D level can get your body back on track. So, if your vitamin D level low, try to source your vitamin from milk, salmon and cod liver or you can even go for supplements.
6. Gut issues:
Vitamin D deficiency decreases the production of anti-microbial molecules essential to maintain a healthy gut flora. Moreover, it is very important to get sufficient amount of vitamin D to avoid inflammation of the gut and other digestive problems. If you’re not exposed to sunlight very often and your meal is not rich in vitamin D, it’s medically advised that you visit your doctor, who may likely recommend vitamin D supplements.
