Officials in the U.K. said on Saturday, December 19, that a new COVID-19 strain is spreading significantly faster than others. Initial studies of this new variant prompted Prime Minister Boris Johnson to tighten restrictions over Christmas, and officials in the Netherlands, Germany and other European countries banned travel to and from the U.K, with the action followed by many other countries.
