Vitamin B12 Deficiency

Vitamin B12 is found in meat, poultry, seafood, dairy products, and eggs.
Although plants do not contain vitamin B12, some breakfast cereals and other foods made from plants are fortified with vitamin B12.
Some causes of vitamin B12 deficiency include:
1. Aging
2. A vegetarian diet
3. Some medications
4. Intestinal disease (celiac disease, Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis) 5. Pregnancy
Lack of vitamin B12 is serious since it can cause permanent nerve damage.
Many people with B12 deficiency can be treated by eating more animal products, and most can be treated by taking B12 supplements or B12 injections.
