How We Beat the Flu and You Can Too!

On this episode we are sharing some simple and natural ways we built up our immune system that helped us quickly overcome the flu. We have used these simple remedies for years and they have helped us stay healthy and when we do get sick to have good outcomes! We hope these ideas will help you and your family stay healthy this flu season and beyond!

Essential Oils

1. Thieves vitality (oral version, 2-3 drops under the tongue morning and evening)
*we are not promoting one particular essential oil company–we have used combinations of others just as effectively. You can review the groupings of oils in this blend and do your research to find similar oils that will work to soothe your cough and soar throat also.

2. Eucalyptus essential oil (mix with carrier oil: 12 drops of essential oil with almond, coconut, jojoba or another carrier oil of your choosing)

Vitamins & Supplements

1. Zinc
Dosage will vary depending on whether you are taking zinc in vitamin form or syrup or lozenge form. We recommend doing your research as to the right dosage for you. If in doubt contact your health practitioner.

2. Vitamin C
For adults, the recommended daily amount for vitamin C is 65 to 90 milligrams (mg) a day, and the upper limit is 2,000 mg a day. (Mayo Clinic)

3. Vitamin D
• If you live where there is sun year-round, then you may not need extra vitamin D as long as you get enough sun.
• If you don’t have access to sun, then vitamin D3 supplements of 1000-2000 IU (25–100 micrograms) should be enough for most people.

4. NAC (N-acetylcysteine)
There are no universal guidelines on the appropriate use of N-acetylcysteine. Doses of up to 1,200 mg per day (generally taken in divided doses) have been used safely in adults. A rule of thumb, never take more than the recommended dosage listed on the product label. (

5. Grapefruit Seed Extract
(To note: liquid is bitter tasting…so instead you can purchase GSE in solid vitamin form.) You can find GSE at this link & likely at most vitamin stores.

Ingredients:
1 orange, with peels and seeds
1 lemon, without peels
1 grapefruit, with peels and seeds
1 tsp. cayenne pepper
4-6 garlic cloves
An inch of ginger
2 cups water split in half

Preparation:
Blend all ingredients in 1 c. of water. Then add 1 c. of water once blended. Drink 3 ounces every 5 hrs. when having flu systems.

HEALTHY LIVING SUGGESTIONS:

1. Decrease Sugar Intake:
Eating or drinking too much sugar curbs immune system cells that attack bacteria. This effect lasts for at least a few hours. (webMD.com)

“Nutrition studies shows that it takes about 75 grams of sugar to weaken the immune system. And once the white blood cells are affected, it’s thought that the immune system is lowered for about 5 hrs. This means that even the healthiest person can seriously damage their immune system by drinking a few sodas or having sugary treats throughout the day.

…and 75 grams of sugar can add up:
1 soda: 40 grams of sugar
1 low-fat, sweetened yogurt: 47 grams of sugar
1 cupcake: 46 grams of sugar
Sports drinks: 35 grams of sugar or more”

2. Water Intake Guidelines:
Daily recommendations for water intake: 1/2 your body weight in ounces. For example: a 120 pound person would drink 60 ounces of water daily. (Note: drink more if you are sweating excessively…fever, exercise etc.)

3. Health Benefits of Garlic:
So much could be said for the benefits of garlic…but we will only share this for now!

The last few things that we believe are vital to keeping our bodies healthy & to help us fight sickness are: lots of rest, decreasing stress (one 5 min. episode of anger is so stressful it can impair your immune system for more than 6 hrs), and trust in a supreme God who can help us to heal and give us peace during times of sickness!
