“Shaadi ki umr ho gayi hai!” Which Indian woman hasn’t heard this blockbuster line? But can age be the only thing that decides whether a woman should marry? That’s what we found ourselves asking after the government announced they are working on a proposal to increase the legal minimum age of marriage for women from 18 to maybe 21 years. Can a change in law really put an end to early marriage? What about education? Or family income? Or society’s customs? Or what a woman really wants?
In partnership with @OxfamIndia, we’re breaking down the shaadi question by looking at the policy! What do you think? Is a change in policy on minimum age of marriage a good idea? Tell us in the comments below!
