Moderna's news excites researchers working on coronavirus vaccine

Maryland researchers working on a potential coronavirus vaccine are excited by news Moderna announced Monday that their vaccine candidate is 94.5% effective at preventing infection. Last week, Pfizer announced its vaccine is 90% effective. Both findings are based on early results. The University of Maryland School of Medicine is part of the third phase of trials for the Moderna vaccine. Researchers told 11 News they were able to get results much quicker than expected because there is so much coronavirus infection across the country — but the vaccines could change all of that.
