Immunity to coronavirus could last years, study finds

With COVID-19 being a new virus, many people are wondering how long we’re immune after catching it or getting a vaccine. We now know we may be set for a while. Let’s connect the dots.

Since the pandemic began, there have been plenty of questions about immunity and antibodies to the virus. Now, a new report has some welcomed good news. Initial reports about immunity weren’t good, as researchers found antibodies to the virus faded quickly. But now, months into the global pandemic, scientists have conducted more robust research and say some people could be immune for years, possibly even decades, to the virus. The new research supports that while antibodies may fall off, immune memory sticks around, meaning a person probably can’t get the virus again.

That doesn’t mean you can’t get infected again, just that it’s rare. This could mean patients only need to be vaccinated every decade or so, helping medical facilities and hospitals hold onto precious treatments for the most serious cases. #WakeUpCLT #COVID19 #Coronavirus
