An elderly Dutch Women became the first person in the world to die of a COVID reinfection. This was such a shock to the medical experts because reinfection is something that shouldn’t happen. Once a patient recovers from the virus their body develops antibodies against the virus to prevent further infection. But now it seems the virus can also attack recovered patients. The woman, 89 years old, suffered from a rare type of bone marrow cancer due to which her immune system was compromised. However, researchers said that her natural response system should have been enough to fend off the coronavirus.
After recovering from the first COVID encounter she was once again tested positive and two weeks later, she died.

Upon further testing, they found that the two viruses were different from each other concluding that it was a reinfection rather than a prolonged shedding.
This was the first time someone is reported to have died from a COVID reinfection. There have been other cases of reinfection worldwide but this was the first death.

A 25-year-old man in Nevada US, was also reinfected. He was the first person in the US documented to have been reinfected. According to researchers the man showed the same symptoms the second time he was infected but this time the effects were more severe. According to the Lancet Infectious Diseases, reinfection with the SARS-CoV-2 has been reported in at least four individuals worldwide i.e. previous exposure does not necessarily mean total immunity. Let that sink in.

That’s it for this video. Hope you liked it. Thanks for watching
